Torture Accountability

Take Actions to Stop Torture

Blog Post New Entry

Welcome!

Posted by keavney@hotmail.com on May 30, 2009 at 7:30 PM

Welcome to the Torture Accountability Action site, a place to share information and action plans for how to hold those responsible for torture accountable to the law.

Please excuse the somewhat chaotic nature of the site right now, we just got this site up and we're all working hard to make Torture Accountability Action Day happen on June 25th. There will be more updates on that in the weeks to come, and I'll post in this blog whenever there's new information or a major change to the site.

Feel free to respond in comments at any time if there's anything you have to share that's relevant to Torture Accountability - any other events or anything you've seen on the web. Here's one for today (h/t David Swanson):

The second most popular proposal on President Obama's "Open Government" web site is called End the Imperial Presidency. It calls for, among other things, prosecuting Bush Administration officials for torture.

You can vote for it by going to http://www.whitehouse.gov/open and going to Brainstorming and logging in. Find the proposal and click the thumbs-up sign.

Thanks,

Mark Keavney

The people in the pictures above are not the little guys. They are the key administration officials involved in crafting a policy that led to torture. They are the high officials in the White House, DOD, Office of Legal Council and Justice Dept. The only evidence that has been revealed are legal memos from Bybee, Feith, Yoo and Haynes. The court in Spain that is investigating these crimes, didn't name Bush or Cheney, although it's clear where Cheney stands on the issue. Rumsfeld signed off on "enhanced" techniques, but later rescinded his approval. Condoleezza Rice seems to have been more on the side of Colin Powell in all of this.

The lawyers can and should be held responsible for purposefully writing legal opinions that they knew to be illegal.

I don't think 21st century America is what our forefathers had in mind. I doubt they would have ha dthe American Revolution had they known we'd let our mis-representatives sell US out.

www.nextrevolution.net

Torture, trillions in debt, war based on lies, illegal immigration free trade, all promoted by our representatives in exchange for campaign finance.

We need to get this country back on track, calling, writting, emailing, or any other type of contact with our mis-representatives
is a waste of time, a lie.

We need to hold Bush & Cheney accountable ASAP to show the world America isn't the joke they, along with the rest of mis-representation have turned US into.

The American people hav ebeen taken in the greatest scam the world has ever seen, we call it representation, democracy, & we spread it around the world with war, murder, & tortue whlle being robbed to the tune of trillion sof $.

Our mis-representatives & camapign contributors have been floating our $ back & forth like bad notes in a bank & making trillions doing it, the same trillions we're in debt.

Our representatives take campaign finance, hand out billions & tax cuts in return when elected, invest in contributors like defense, promote war, or bankinsg & insurance & hand out billions to bail out the crooks who broke US after making trillions, & the SEC, FED, & Treasury stopped public debate into whether derivatives were a risk to the world financial system.

Our prisons are full of Americans being held acountable, we call it justice. Is it just the working class who must obey laws? Are the people we elect above the law? If we don't prosecute Bush & Cheney, that is th emessage we send the world. America is a lie.

Ummm... I've got a question, and a serious suggestion. It's about the picture/banner at the top of this page. Why those people, and ONLY those people?

"These people broke the law and authorized torture. Help us hold them accountable."

I agree that all those pictured should wind up in prison. But "authorized" torture? Uh... no. Unless I'm mistaken, the names of the authorizers are George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, and Donald Rumsfeld. With big assists from the likes of Condaleesa Rice.

So, my suggestion: Unless you want everyone shrugging their shoulders and asking, "What's the point if we get only the little guys?", you REALLY need to add pictures of the TOP war criminals, esp. Bush and Cheney.
